Fighting for Us

"And as they fled before Israel... the Lord threw down large stones from heaven... There were more who died because of the hailstones than the sons of Israel killed with the sword." - Joshua 10:11

"... The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel." - Joshua 10:13b-14

This is the God who fights for us. This is the overwhelming victory we have in Christ our Lord. I feel like today the scriptures speak for themselves. Take some time to claim victory in the name of Jesus over your struggles and battles. Let out a shout of victory and thank our powerful and mighty God because He's worthy.

Victorious,

Robby

Just another day at work. The sun and the moon stopping, hailstorms killing the enemy. I love it! That’s my powerful God! I am encouraged by these powerful words that God spoke to Joshua:

"Do not be afraid of them," the LORD said to Joshua, "for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you." Joshua 10:8

Again God declares the future as if it already has happened. God declared this before even one arrow had been shot. For God sees the beginning and the ending in one blink. Father help me to have faith in you throughout all circumstances. God tells us “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Hebrews 13:5

I love the mental picture that I get when I read:

“So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." And they drew near and put their feet on their necks. Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."

Joshua is saying look at the power of the Lord. Look what God has done to our circumstances! God literally placed 5 kings under the feet of the Israelites.

Father help me to stand and believe that you are always with me. In times of abundance and in times of need. Help me to always say, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15

I know we get this awesome story of victory in Joshua 10 and these kind of things get us all pumped up and we are ready to take on the world. That's great and all but something else pumps me up besides all the gnarly death and destruction of the enemy. Just like Jay pointed in verse 8 that God told Joshua that he is going to have victory and because of that I believe this is what lead Joshua to ask for this crazy thing.

In verse 12 Joshua asks the Lord to have the sun stand still. When I first read this story I just assumed that God held the sun still because the job of destroying their enemies hadn't been done yet. But after reading this today I picked up that it was Joshua asking for this. This reminds me of what pastor Rick has been talking about, the idea of if we know who we are then we will know what to do. I believe that Joshua knew exactly who he was and exactly what he needed to do. I just think that when Joshua asked God for this gnarly request it wasn't the way we tend to do it. I don't think Joshua was like "God it would be nice to keep the sun up so we could finish here, if not then we can always finish up tomorrow." It reminds me when we pray "Lord your will be done", kind of just throwing it up to God and hoping that whatever happens is good enough. Joshua knew what God's will was and because of that He knew that his request wasn't crazy.

Robby said to claim victory over things in our lives and I would agree with that. I feel that we need to do that in away that Joshua modeled it out for us. We aren't going to ask for victory because we know that God can give us victory, we will proclaim it because we know that He has already won the victory for us!

That's awesome. I think there's a difference between asking God to do something, just waiting around for something to happen and stepping forward as Joshua did, knowing that the Lord has already made provision for the victory. We know who we are, so we step forward in victory by the working of the Holy Spirit in us, the very Seal of our identity.

I think this is the perfect example of the law of the lose sandel Kinsman-Redemer law) at work. This is God battle and He fights it well.

Rom 8:31-32
1 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
